British forces responding to suspected drone strike at Cyprus base

British forces are responding to a suspected drone strike at its military base in Cyprus, the UK’s defense ministry says, with no casualties reported.

The strike hit the RAF Akrotiri base at midnight, says the ministry, adding that its forces were handling a “live situation.”

Hezbollah confirms it fired rockets at Israel as ‘revenge’ for Khamenei

Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group claims responsibility for firing rockets at northern Israel tonight for the first time since the November 2024 Israel-Lebanon ceasefire.

The rocket attack is “revenge for the blood of the Supreme Leader of the Muslims, Ali Khamenei,” the Iranian proxy group says, referring to Iran’s supreme leader, who was killed in the opening salvo of the US-Israeli bombing campaign on the Islamic Republic on Saturday.

Hezbollah claims it targeted a missile defense site south of Haifa in the attack. The IDF said it intercepted one rocket fired at northern Israel from Lebanon and let several other fall in open spaces. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Hezbollah suggests that the rocket attack constitutes a “warning” to Israel to “withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory,” referring to the five border posts Israel has held on to in Lebanon, citing security concerns, despite being required to withdraw under the 2024 ceasefire.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said in January that the group would not be “neutral” if the US struck Iran, and vowed to confront US threats to Khamenei, but stopped short of committing to intervene in a regional war.

After the US and Israel struck Iran on Saturday, the government in Beirut, which seeks to disarm Hezbollah, said it would not let anyone drag Lebanon into war.

IDF confirms it is striking Hezbollah targets across Lebanon after terror group fired at Israel

The IDF confirms that it has begun striking Hezbollah targets across Lebanon after the Iran-backed terror group fired several rockets at northern Israel earlier tonight.

The terror group said that it had launched the strikes in retaliation for the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Confirming that Hezbollah was indeed behind the attack, the IDF said it “will not allow the organization to pose a threat to the State of Israel and harm the residents of the north.”

“The terrorist organization Hezbollah is destroying the state of Lebanon, responsibility for the escalation lies with it,” the military says, vowing to “respond forcefully” to the attack.

Israeli strikes reported in Beirut after rockets fired from Lebanon

Lebanese and Arabic news outlets report Israeli strikes in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, after several rockets were fired at northern Israel earlier tonight.

Lebanese security sources tell Reuters that at least one target in Beirut’s southern suburbs was hit in the strikes.

There is no immediate comment from the IDF.

IDF said to confirm Hezbollah behind rocket fire from Lebanon, in first since November 2024 ceasefire

The IDF has confirmed that Hezbollah was behind the rocket fire from Lebanon a short while ago, according to Hebrew-language media reports.

If so, it would mark the first time that Hezbollah has joined Iran in its attacks on Israel, as it did not get involved during the previous Israel-Iran war in June.

It would also mark the first time that the terror group has fired at Israel since the US-brokered Israel-Lebanon ceasefire came into effect in November 2024.

IDF launches new wave of airstrikes against Iranian regime targets in Tehran

The Israeli Air Force is conducting a new wave of airstrikes against Iranian regime targets “in the heart of Tehran,” the IDF announces.

At the same time, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reports explosions in some areas of the Iranian capital.

IDF: One rocket from Lebanon intercepted, several others allowed to fall in open areas

The IDF says it intercepted one rocket that was launched from Lebanon at northern Israel a short while ago.

Several additional rockets fell in open areas, the IDF says, as they were not intercepted in accordance with the military’s policies.

It says there were no reports of casualties or damage.

Meanwhile, sirens are continuing to sound in areas close to the Lebanon border, warning of both suspected drone infiltrations and incoming rocket fire.

Rockets launched from Lebanon for first time in months, setting off sirens across northern Israel

Sirens were activated in northern Israel a short while ago due to projectiles fired from Lebanon, the IDF says.

The sirens went off in the northern city of Haifa and surrounding areas, as well as in several other locations in the Upper Galilee.

The IDF says the details of the incident are under investigation, and Magen David Adom says it has not received any reports of injuries.

It is not immediately clear who is responsible for the launches, but Hebrew media reports that Hezbollah is behind the rocket fire, although the terror group has not confirmed this.

It would be the first time that Hezbollah has joined Iran in its attacks on Israel, as it did not get involved during the previous Israel-Iran war in June.

It would also mark the first time that the terror group has fired at Israel since the US-brokered Israel-Lebanon ceasefire came into effect in November 2024.

Jerusalem District police chief visits site of missile impact on city’s outskirts

Jerusalem District police commander Avshalom Peled has arrived at the scene of a ballistic missile impact in Jerusalem.

He tours the scene of the strike before departing without taking questions from the press.

The strike injured three people, including one in moderate condition, according to the Magen David Adom emergency service.

The missile left a large crater in a highway on Jerusalem’s outskirts.

Police bomb disposal experts are conducting searches for additional munitions in and around the crater.

A police officer says sappers have not yet ruled out the possibility of additional hazards at the site.

The impact also hollowed out a traffic sign and caused heavy damage to several cars.

The highway, strewn with debris from the impact, is blocked to traffic in both directions.

Bulldozers collect rubble from the surrounding area as bystanders, mostly young Haredi men, gather on a ledge overlooking the highway.

IDF troops said to detain Palestinians targeted by settlers in two separate incidents

IDF troops detained five Palestinians who were attacked by settlers around noon today in Duma, south of Nablus in the northern West Bank, Palestinian media and Israeli activists say.

At least one Palestinian suffered bruises and was detained along with four other young men following a clash with settlers in the village, according to WAFA, the Palestinian Authority’s official news agency. It’s unclear from the report whether the Palestinians are still in Israeli custody.

The outlet cites Duma Mayor Suleiman Dawabsheh as saying troops, following the attack, shuttered the main entrance to the village, preventing medics from reaching the scene.

Israeli activists who perform “protective presence” duty in the area, aiming to help Palestinians, say two activists in Duma were also assaulted by settlers who carried guns, clubs and pepper spray.

Footage published by the activists shows two assailants swinging clubs, kicking and pepper-spraying activists. The assailants both wear the Jewish ritual undergarment tzitzit, whose threads hang from under their hoodies.

Separately, Israeli activists who perform protective presence in the northern West Bank’s Jordan Valley say troops arrested seven men from the tent compound of Hadidiya as settlers raided homes in the small Palestinian shepherding community. The detained Palestinians were released hours after they were arrested at about 4 p.m., the Jordan Valley Activists say.

Footage shared with The Times of Israel by the activists shows a settler apparently searching a bedroom as an Israeli activist and a Palestinian woman holding a small child demand he leave, which he refuses to do. Separate footage shows another tent apparently ransacked, with an electrical appliance, food and other items splayed on the ground.

The Israeli activists also share footage of Palestinian men crouching on the ground as soldiers stand over them. One of the Palestinians, with his hands tied behind his back, is seen being led away from the compound by soldiers, as settlers in civilian clothes, at least two of whom carry assault rifles, look on.

The IDF does not immediately respond to a request for comment on either incident.

16-year-old Gavriel Baruch named as fourth victim of Beit Shemesh missile strike

The fourth victim of the Iranian ballistic missile strike in Beit Shemesh is identified as 16-year-old Gavriel Baruch.

Nine people were killed when the missile slammed into a residential neighborhood in Beit Shemesh on Sunday afternoon.

More than 40 people were injured in the impact, which destroyed a synagogue and caused extensive damage to a public bomb shelter beneath it, as well as surrounding homes.

US President Donald Trump reiterates his call for Iran’s security forces to lay down their arms in exchange for full immunity, “or face certain death.”

Trump calls on “Iranian patriots who yearn for freedom to seize this moment, to be brave, be bold, be heroic and take back your country.”

On Saturday, he told Iranians to remain in their homes until the bombs stop falling, at which point they should try and take over their government.

It is unclear whether Trump is suggesting that moment has arrived. He also stated that the US strikes in Iran would continue.

“America is with you. I made a promise to you, and I fulfilled that promise. The rest will be up to you, but we’ll be there to help,” Trump says.

US President Donald Trump argues that Americans are able to enjoy the freedoms that they have because the country has taken actions like Operation Epic Fury, the US bombing campaign against Iran, carried out in conjunction with Israel.

He again warns in a video statement about the threat Iran would pose if it obtained long-range missiles and nuclear weapons.

“We cannot allow a nation that raises terrorist armies to possess such weapons, [which] would allow them to extort the world to their evil will,” Trump says, adding that Operation Epic Fury is aimed at providing Americans security for generations to come.

“This is the duty and the burden of a free people. These actions are right and they are necessary to ensure that Americans will never have to face a radical, bloodthirsty terrorist regime armed with nuclear weapons and lots of threats,” Trump says.

“For almost 50 years, these wicked extremists have been attacking the United States while chanting the slogan, ‘Death to America,’ or ‘Death to Israel,’ or both.”

“They are the world’s number one state sponsor of terror. We are the world’s greatest and most powerful nation, so we can do something about what they do,” Trump says. “These intolerable threats will not continue any longer.”

US President Donald Trump claims Iran’s “entire military command is gone” and that “thousands” are seeking to surrender in exchange for immunity.

“The entire military command is gone… and many of them want to surrender [in order to] save their lives. They want immunity. They’re calling by the thousands,” Trump says in a pre-recorded video statement uploaded to Truth Social, his second since the launch of joint US-Israeli strikes in Iran on Saturday morning.

“Combat operations continue at this time in full force, and they will continue until all of our objectives are achieved. We have very strong objectives,” Trump says.

He laments the first three deaths of American service members since the start of the operation, which were announced today, and says “there will likely be more.”

Still, he asserts, “our resolve, and likewise, that of Israel, has never been stronger.”

This is the first time he has mentioned Israel, which is conducting the campaign in partnership with the US, in his two video statements.

Oman’s foreign minister says the door to diplomacy between the US and Iran remains open, despite a war between the two countries that began yesterday.

“I still believe in the power of diplomacy to resolve this conflict. The sooner talks are resumed the better it is for everyone,” Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi writes in a post on X.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he agreed to let the United States use UK bases to fire “defensive” strikes aimed at destroying Iranian missiles and their launchers.

But in a video address posted to social media, he adds, “We were not involved in the initial strikes on Iran and we will not join offensive action now.”

In a separate statement, France, Germany, and the UK say they are ready to defend their interests and those of its allies in the Gulf if necessary by taking “defensive action” against Iran.

Magen David Adom, in revised toll, says number of injured in Jerusalem-area missile impact is three

Magen David Adom in a revised toll says three people were wounded by the Iranian ballistic missile impact on a road in the Jerusalem area.

They include a man, aged 46, who was moderately hurt by shrapnel, as well as two others, who were lightly injured.

In addition, MDA says it treated two people suffering from acute anxiety.

The emergency service had previously said six were injured in the strike.

PA police: Iranian missile shrapnel hits several areas of West Bank, damages home in Nablus

Shrapnel from Iranian missile strikes today damaged a home in the northern West Bank Palestinian city of Nablus, with no injuries reported, Palestinian Authority police say.

Footage published by Palestinian media shows a plume of smoke rising from amid several buildings on a hill in Nablus, with part of one building’s exterior scorched.

Separate footage from the Nablus-area village of Huwara also shows a piece of shrapnel in flames on the road.

Shrapnel also fell in at least one other location near Nablus; one location each in the areas of Jenin and Jericho in the northern West Bank; and three locations in the area of Ramallah in the central West Bank, without any injuries or damage reported, PA police say.

Footage from west of Ramallah shows several pieces of flaming shrapnel in an open area beside a road.

Hezbollah vows to confront the United States and Israel over their strikes on the terror group’s backer, Iran.

“We will undertake our duty of confronting the aggression,” Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem says in a statement, adding that his movement would not leave “the field of honor and resistance.”

The terror group has so far not taken action since the US and Israel began striking Iran yesterday. It also did not intervene during the June war between Israel and Iran.

Hezbollah organizes a gathering of thousands of people in its stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs in a show of support for Iran, amid fears from Lebanese authorities that it might intervene in the conflict.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, following an emergency meeting of the country’s Higher Defense Council, says that “the decision of war and peace rests solely with the Lebanese state.”

Hezbollah also calls on mosques to recite the Koran and organize mourning ceremonies to mark the death of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, both in the Beirut suburb and other areas of Lebanon where the group wields influence.

Khamenei was killed yesterday as the United States and Israel jointly launched a barrage of ongoing strikes on the Islamic Republic.

Qassem, who succeeded Hassan Nasrallah as the group’s chief following the latter’s death in an Israeli strike in September 2024, says the assassination of Khamenei and other Iranian officials was “the height of crime.”

In a statement later in the day, Hezbollah pledges to “continue its jihad and resistance, and to stand firmly and steadfastly alongside the Islamic Republic… to defeat the arrogant and tyrannical aggressors until the final and complete victory is achieved.”

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reports Iranian missiles heading for Israel over southern Lebanon, and says explosions were heard as the Israeli military tried to intercept them.

Without giving a reason, the US embassy in Beirut announces that it will be closed tomorrow.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam yesterday rejected the prospect of being dragged into war following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

While approving battle plans with the military’s top brass this evening, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir says Israel has reached “significant achievements” in Iran, but “many more days of fighting lie ahead.”

“We are less than 48 hours into the campaign we are engaged in; many more days of fighting lie ahead. We will do everything and operate to the best of our abilities to accelerate the achievements, and we are sparing no effort,” Zamir says in a video published by the IDF.

“We opened with a powerful surprise and with very significant achievements that have affected the development of the campaign and its results. Already now we can say that the achievements we reached at the outset will influence our end-state,” he says.

Zamir says the IDF has been operating “since the start of the campaign with great force, with one of our main objectives being the reduction of threats to the home front. Patience is now required.”

“We are operating in close cooperation with our ally, and coordination with the US military is tighter than ever,” he continues, adding that “we are monitoring developments in additional arenas as well, and we will act forcefully against anyone who tries to challenge us.”

“It’s always been a four week process… It’s a big country. It’ll take four weeks — or less,” Trump tells the Daily Mail in his latest of a string of media interviews today day.

Commenting on the war’s first three deaths of American servicemembers, announced today, Trump says, “We expect that to happen, unfortunately… It could happen again.”

He says Operation Epic Fury, the US name for the operation, is proceeding as planned, declaring that the US has likely killed 48 of Iran’s top leaders.

Trump reiterates his willingness to speak with whoever is left of Iran’s leaders but says he is not sure when that will take place.

He says he is getting ready to give another address to the nation on the ongoing Iran strikes.

Trump says he is hopeful that democracy will spread in Iran, “But a lot of things could happen and a lot of very positive things could happen.”

Hundreds of demonstrators led by Iranian expats cheer for the US and Israel in Times Square, amid the US and Israeli air campaign against the Iranian regime.

The crowd waves pre-Islamic Revolution Iranian flags, bearing the lion-and-sun emblem, and chants for the late deposed shah’s son, Reza Pahlavi. Some demonstrators carry Israeli and US flags.

“Alternative for Iran, King Reza Pahlavi,” and, “Khamenei is gone,” they chant, referring to the former supreme leader killed in the US and Israeli strikes.

Footage may show Iranian cluster bomb sub-munitions hitting Israel

Footage posted to social media shows what could be sub-munitions from an Iranian cluster bomb warhead crashing down in Israel this evening, amid a ballistic missile attack.

Videos show some two dozen fragments streaking through the sky.

It is not confirmed whether these are cluster bomb sub-munitions or other fragments from an intercepted missile.

The IDF has previously confirmed that Iran has launched ballistic missiles carrying cluster bomb warheads at Israel.

The warhead of such missiles, which Iran also fired at Israel in the June 2025 war, opens up while descending and spreads some 20 smaller munitions with around 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) of explosives, in a radius of around eight kilometers (five miles).

United Hatzalah volunteer and her mother still unaccounted for after Beit Shemesh strike

United Hatzalah says one of its volunteers and her mother remain unaccounted for hours after an Iranian ballistic missile struck Beit Shemesh earlier today, leaving nine dead and over 40 injured in the city.

According to the emergency medical service, paramedics called to the scene found Ronit Elimelech’s medical kit and vest amid the rubble, raising fears about her and her mother’s wellbeing.

The pair are among 11 people still unaccounted for following the devastating impact, as first responders continue their search efforts at the site.

Elimelech and her three children had been at her parents’ home in Beit Shemesh and entered a public shelter once they heard sirens go off, signaling the oncoming attack, the group says in a statement.

First responders rescued two of Elimelech’s children from the rubble and took them to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center after they sustained light to moderate injuries in the strike.

Elimelech’s father was found safe, and is staying with relatives, the statement continues.

“Ronit joined United Hatzalah after her young son asked her to volunteer as his birthday gift. I met them personally, and they hold a very special place in our hearts,” Eli Beer, United Hatzalah’s president, writes in a post on X. “We will continue to hope and pray for her safety and for good news.”

Israel believes that the joint campaign with the US against Iran is progressing more quickly than anticipated, and that the regime will struggle to withstand the full implementation of the campaign plan, Channel 12 reports, citing a senior Israeli official.

It will be “game over” for the regime, according to the report, meaning that it will not be able to stand up to protesters if they take to the streets once again.

Israel is now focused on massive strikes to take out the government’s means of repressing citizens in Tehran, including the Revolutionary Guards, according to the report.

“In order to create the conditions for toppling the regime, you must wipe out whoever harms the ability to topple the regime, and we are focused on that,” says a senior Israeli official. “Very soon the Iranian people will receive the signal to head out from their homes, the Iranians will understand that and see it with their own eyes.”

The US and Israel could call on Iranians to take to the streets within a few days, says Channel 12.

No injuries reported after Iranian missile attack on northern Israel — medics

There are no reports of injuries following the latest Iranian ballistic missile attack on northern Israel, medics say.

The IDF Home Front Command, meanwhile, says civilians in areas where sirens sounded can now leave bomb shelters, but should still remain close to them.

IDF says wave of strikes ‘destroyed’ Revolutionary Guards HQ in Tehran

The Israeli Air Force completed a wave of strikes targeting Iranian headquarters in Tehran, where Iranian soldiers were gathered, IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin says in a press conference.

Defrin says more than 100 IAF fighter jets were involved in the strikes, which targeted dozens of headquarters belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including its intelligence, air force, and internal security units.

“These are significant and powerful strikes. These headquarters operated against Israel and the entire world. Today, they were destroyed along with everyone operating in them,” Defrin says.

The IDF also publishes a new video showing strikes on Iranian air defense systems and ballistic missile launchers in western Iran.

“I was saddened to learn of the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a result of the attacks that took place yesterday,” he says, according to a post on X, extending Turkey’s “sympathies” to the people of Iran.

Erdogan is a harsh critic of Israel and has previously praised Hamas, the Gaza terror group that is an Iranian proxy. Turkey is also a member of the NATO alliance alongside the United States.

After US President Donald Trump told The Atlantic that he ‘will be talking’ to leaders of Iran who expressed interest in talking, a senior White House official clarifies that such conversations won’t be happening just yet.

“President Trump said new potential leadership in Iran has indicated they want to talk and eventually he will talk. For now, Operation Epic Fury continues unabated,” the White House official says in a statement sent to querying reporters, using the US name for the campaign of airstrikes in Iran in conjunction with Israel.

“They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will be talking to them. They should have done it sooner,” Trump was quoted earlier today as saying by The Atlantic, a US magazine. “They should have given what was very practical and easy to do sooner. They waited too long.”

He did not give a timeframe for the conversations. His remarks came a day after the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran intended to expedite regime change, with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei killed in a strike on his compound, and no successor appointed.

Three ships attacked in Strait of Hormuz, maritime agencies say

Three ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz today, maritime security agencies say, as Iran pressed a second day of strikes in response to ongoing US-Israeli air attacks.

One ship, off the coast of Oman, was “struck by an unknown projectile above the waterline. Although the engine room was originally reported as on fire it has now been reported that the fire is under control,” the British maritime security agency UKMTO says in a statement.

In a separate incident, another vessel was “struck by an unknown projectile causing a fire. The fire has been extinguished and the vessel intends to continue on its voyage,” UKMTO says.

The private maritime security company Vanguard Tech indicates that the second vessel, a tanker, was located approximately 17 nautical miles northwest of Mina Saqr in the United Arab Emirates.

UKMTO later reports another projectile “exploded in very close proximity to a vessel” 35 nautical miles west of the Emirati city of Sharjah.

It says all crew were “safe and well.”

Iranian state television says an oil tanker is “sinking” after being struck while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

“The fate of the offending oil tanker that was struck while attempting to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz is that it is now sinking,” state TV reports, without elaborating.

Images broadcast by the television station show thick black smoke billowing from the burning tanker.

The strait is a key transit point for the global oil trade, through which a quarter of the world’s oil and a fifth of its liquefied natural gas pass.

Yesterday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards closed the shipping lane, warning that it was dangerous due to US and Israeli attacks.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen calls for a “credible transition” in Iran, after the killing of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli strikes.

Foreign ministers from the EU’s 27 nations — most of which are NATO members — hold extraordinary talks to discuss the situation via video link.

Writing on social media after calls with several Middle East leaders, von der Leyen says Khamenei’s death spurred “renewed hope for the people of Iran.”

“At the same time, this moment carries a real risk of instability that could push the region into a spiral of violence,” the European Commission president adds.

Von der Leyen says Brussels is engaging closely “with all key actors” to safeguard stability and security and to protect civilian lives.

“The risk of further escalation is real. This is why a credible transition in Iran is urgently needed,” she writes on X, calling for a “lasting solution,” after speaking with Qatar’s ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

“This must mean the halt of Iran’s military nuclear and ballistic missile programs and the end of destabilizing actions on air, land and at sea,” she writes.

Von der Leyen says she also spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

Likewise, the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, says she is in contact with regional partners “that bear the brunt of Iran’s military actions” to find practical steps for de-escalation.

“The death of Ali Khamenei is a defining moment in Iran’s history,” she writes on X. “What comes next is uncertain. But there is now an open path to a different Iran, one that its people may have greater freedom to shape.”

Hospitals in Jerusalem are treating 50 people wounded in the Iranian missile strike in Beit Shemesh that killed 9.

Hadassah Ein Kerem reports that it is treating 18 people who were injured in the strike, including three children. One of the people is in serious condition, a child is in moderate condition, and the rest are in good condition.

Among the injured people evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem is a pregnant woman in her 30s, who is currently being treated in the obstetrics emergency room.

Hadassah Mount Scopus reports that it is treating 17 people who were injured in the strike, including four children, all in good condition and conscious.

Shaare Zedek Medical Center says that 15 people, including five children, who were injured in the attack were evacuated to the hospital. A 4-year-old boy, whose condition is described as moderate, was transferred to the operating room. His life is not in danger. All the other wounded people are described as being in good condition.

Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba also reports that, since the start of Roaring Lion yesterday, 42 people wounded from missiles have been treated at the hospital. There are currently three injured people who are hospitalized including one in serious condition and one in moderate condition.

Soroka’s Saban Midwifery Center also says that 43 babies have been born in the protected delivery rooms and operating rooms since the start of the operation.

NATO’s top commander in Europe is “closely” following developments in Iran and the Middle East and adjusting forces as needed to defend against “potential threats,” the alliance says.

The commander, US General Alexus Grynkewich, “has and will continue to adjust NATO’s very strong force posture to ensure the security of its 32 member nations and to defend the Alliance from potential threats,” says a NATO statement posted on X.

It cites in particular the threat of “ballistic missiles or unmanned aerial vehicles, emanating from this or other regions.”

Just one in four Americans support US strikes on Iran — Reuters/Ipsos poll

Only one in four Americans approves of the US strikes, as part of a joint US-Israeli operation, that killed Iran’s leader yesterday, while about half — including one in four Republicans — believe President Donald Trump is too willing to use military force, finds a Reuters/Ipsos poll that concluded today.

Some 27 percent of respondents say they approve of the strikes, while 43% disapprove and 29% are not sure. About nine in 10 respondents say they have heard at least a little about the strikes, which began early yesterday.

Some 56% of Americans think Trump, who has also ordered strikes in Venezuela, Syria, and Nigeria in recent months, is too willing to use military force to advance US interests. The vast majority of Democrats — 87% — hold this view, as do 23% of Republicans and 60% of people who do not identify with either political party.

The poll, which began yesterday after the strikes got underway, gathered responses online from 1,282 US adults nationwide. It had a margin of error of three percentage points.

US military confirms using B-2 bombers in Iran strikes

The US military officially confirms using B-2 stealth bombers to strike underground Iranian ballistic missile facilities.

“Last night, US B-2 stealth bombers, armed with 2,000 pound bombs, struck Iran’s hardened ballistic missile facilities,” the US Central Command says.

The statement comes after analysts monitoring open-source flight tracking data revealed that B-2 bombers had been used in recent strikes on Iran. The bombers were also used in US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June.

Hackers hit Iranian apps, websites after US-Israeli strikes, experts say

A wave of cyber-enabled operations took place early yesterday morning alongside the beginning of the joint US-Israeli attacks on targets across Iran, say cybersecurity experts and observers.

The operations included the hacking of multiple news websites to display various messages and the hack of BadeSaba, a religious calendar app with more than 5 million downloads, which displayed messages telling users “It’s time for reckoning” and urging armed forces to give up weapons and join the people.

Reuters could not establish contact with BadeSaba’s chief executive.

A spokesperson for US Cyber Command does not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Internet connectivity in Iran dropped precipitously in the morning, and then again a few hours later, with only minimal connectivity remaining, Doug Madory, director of internet analysis at Kentik, says in a post on X.

“As Iran considers its options, the likelihood increases that proxy groups and hacktivists may take action, including cyberattacks, against Israeli and US-affiliated military, commercial, or civilian targets,” says Rafe Pilling, the director of threat intelligence with cybersecurity firm Sophos.

The attacks could include the amplification of old data breaches presented as new, unsophisticated attempts to compromise internet-exposed industrial systems, and potentially direct offensive cyber operations, Pilling said.

Cybersecurity firm Anomali says in an analysis shared with Reuters yesterday that state-backed Iranian hacking groups were already carrying out “wiper” attacks that erase data on Israeli targets ahead of the strikes.

IDF: Over 2,000 bombs dropped by fighter jets in Iran over 30 hours; air supremacy achieved in first day

Since the start of the conflict with Iran yesterday, Israeli Air Force fighter jets have dropped over 2,000 bombs in hundreds of strikes against Iranian regime targets and military sites, according to the IDF.

The number, over the first 30 hours of the war, is around half of what the IAF used over the entire course of the 12-day war in June 2025.

During that time, IAF fighter jets have carried out over 700 sorties, the military says.

The military says that it achieved aerial superiority within 24 hours of the start of the operation, after taking out numerous Iranian air defense systems in western Iran.

IAF fighter jets are now using “stand-in” weapons over the capital Tehran, meaning bombs dropped directly over their targets, rather than ranged missiles.

The military says it seeks to maintain air supremacy as it carries out strikes on regime targets in the Iranian capital.

“In recent hours, air force aircraft have been operating with air superiority over the skies of Tehran, striking and destroying numerous targets,” the IDF says in a statement.

The IDF says that the targets included ballistic missile launchers, air defense systems, and headquarters.

At the same time, IAF fighter jets, helicopters, and air defense systems have shot down more than 50 drones launched from Iran at Israel, the military adds.

The IDF has not disclosed how many ballistic missiles launched from Iran have been shot down, but says the interception rate is “high.”

Woman killed in strike on Tel Aviv yesterday named as Philippine national Mary Anne Velasquez de Vera

The woman killed in an Iranian strike on Tel Aviv yesterday has been named as 32-year-old Philippine national Mary Anne Velasquez de Vera, a caregiver who lived with her patient.

“Mary Ann was injured while selflessly assisting her patient to safety during Operation Roaring Lion on March 1, 2026,” the Israeli embassy in the Philippines says in a statement. “A stark reminder that the Iranian regime continues to sow terror indiscriminately, targeting civilians without distinction.”

“Mary Ann, like so many overseas Filipino workers in Israel, exemplified resilience, compassion, and quiet strength. She was identified by her husband, who is also an overseas Filipino worker in Israel, and their family,” the embassy says.

President Isaac Herzog calls the Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola to express his condolences over de Vera’s death, the President’s Residence tells The Times of Israel.

Germany’s government agrees with the US in wanting to see an end to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic armament, Chancellor Friedrich Merz says, adding, however, that this entails risks.

“We share the US’ interest in seeing an end to this regime’s terror and a halt to dangerous nuclear and ballistic armament,” Merz tells reporters, adding that the strikes were intended to put an end to a destructive game being played by Iran.

“This is not without risk. We do not know how far the region will be drawn into escalation by Iran’s harsh counterstrikes,” he adds.

US President Donald Trump says he will “be talking” to Iranian leaders but is vague on the timing and notes that much of the country’s leadership is dead amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

“They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will be talking to them. They should have done it sooner,” Trump is quoted as saying by The Atlantic, a US magazine. “They should have given what was very practical and easy to do sooner. They waited too long.”

Asked when talks might take place, Trump says, “I can’t tell you.”

His remarks come a day after the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran intended to expedite regime change, with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei killed in a strike on his compound, and no successor appointed.

High Court: Government has made no progress in enforcement against ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers

The High Court of Justice says the government has made no progress in drawing up effective measures for enforcing military conscription for ultra-Orthodox men who have received draft orders but failed to present themselves for enlistment.

The court says in a decision that the state’s response to petitions asking for the government to be found in contempt of court for failing to enforce enlistment were “unsatisfactory,” and that elements of the current situation were “extremely worrying.”

The justices upbraid the government for failing to provide adequate details in its response to the contempt of court request; note that the government has already blown past previous deadlines; and ordered the government to provide a full and complete update by March 22.

A hearing on the petitions for a contempt of court ruling was supposed to be held today but was canceled because of the conflict with Iran.

The court notes that it had previously requested a full explanation of the steps the government was taking to take such enforcement measures, but said the government had failed to present “any factual details whatsoever” about a key aspect of enforcement — socioeconomic sanctions against ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers.

Details about criminal enforcement were also entirely absent from the government’s response, the court says.

The judges further write that the details provided by the government regarding the behavior of the police in enforcing conscription, and specifically the working relationship of the police and military enforcement officials, are “exceedingly troubling,” and “are incommensurate with court rulings on this issue,” a phrase which could already be seen as a determination by the court that the state has failed to implement its ruling on Haredi conscription enforcement.

In the attorney general’s response to the court on behalf of the military, she informed the court that IDF officials had said that the police are refusing to enable arrest operations for Haredi draft dodgers by military police in ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods.

The court’s comments and decision are issued unanimously by all five justices on the panel.

102-year-old who was injured while taking cover from Iranian attack dies of his wounds

A 102-year-old man who was injured by a fall while seeking cover from an Iranian missile attack has died of his wounds, according to Tel Aviv’s Ichilov-Sourasky Medical Center.

The man was injured in Ramat Gan after falling down the stairs while on his way to a protected area during an Iranian missile barrage.

Paramedics found the elderly man in unstable condition, having sustained serious head trauma, after they received a report of the incident in the Tel Aviv area at around 2 p.m.

The emergency teams administered first aid to the injured man then rushed him to Sourasky, Magen David Adom says.

Oman’s foreign minister, who had been mediating US-Iran talks prior to the outbreak of war yesterday, urges a ceasefire on a call with his Iranian counterpart, as Tehran launched a second day of strikes in response to ongoing US-Israeli air attacks.

Badr Albusaidi “affirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s continued call for a ceasefire and a return to dialogue… in a manner that achieves the legitimate demands of all parties,” Oman’s Foreign Ministry says in a readout of a call with Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi.

Araghchi tells Albusaidi that Tehran is open to any serious efforts at de-escalation, according to the statement.

Khamenei’s death a ‘step forward,’ regime will ‘have to disappear,’ says nephew

The death of Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei in Israel and US strikes on the country offers it hope, his nephew, a France-based doctor opposed to the regime, tells AFP.

“Like most Iranians, I am happy,” Mahmoud Moradkhani, the son of one of Khamenei’s sisters, says by telephone from his home in northern France.

“I am very happy about the death of Ali Khamenei. I think it’s a step forward, a hope,” he says.

“War and military interventions slow down a bit political process, which is a bit regrettable, but maybe we had to go through this step,” says the 62-year-old.

He predicts that the regime is unlikely to survive Khamenei’s killing.

“The regime’s internal rivalries are such and it won’t be able to resist them, it’ll have to disappear and give the power to the people,” he says.

He adds: “I hope that the military interventions will cease and that the people will be able to express themselves in the streets. It is very difficult in this situation to ask the people to take to the streets, to demonstrate, and to overthrow the regime.”

The IDF says it has mobilized 100,000 reservists amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The number appears to be in addition to the 50,000 reservists currently on duty.

Ground troops have been reinforced on Israel’s borders with Syria, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and in the West Bank, the military says.

The Home Front Command alone has mobilized 20,000 reservists, mainly for search and rescue efforts, according to the IDF.

Reinforcements were also made in the Israeli Air Force, Israeli Navy, and Intelligence Directorate.

The IDF says it “will prepare and provide the reserve servicemembers with all the logistical means necessary to operate under the best conditions.”

US President Donald Trump says 48 Iranian leaders have been killed in the ongoing US-Israeli strikes on the country.

“Nobody can believe the success we’re having, 48 leaders are gone in one shot. And it’s moving along rapidly,” Trump was quoted as saying in an interview with Fox News.

In a separate interview with CNBC, he says the US operation in Iran is “ahead of schedule.”

About 500 Russians to be evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan, says Russian embassy

About 500 Russian nationals are readying for evacuation from Kremlin ally Iran via Azerbaijan, the Russian embassy in Baku says.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for their assistance, including for the prompt consideration of issues related to the issuance of border crossing permits,” it says on its Telegram channel.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has recommended Russian nationals to move to safe regions in Israel and Iran or leave the countries after military strikes by Israel and the United States on the Islamic Republic, and Iranian missile and drone fire on Israel.

Attack in western Iran kills 43 members of security forces — local media

Iranian media reports that 43 members of the security forces were killed in an attack on the headquarters of a border regiment in the western city of Mehran near Iraq today.

“This attack, which was accompanied by bombing, unfortunately resulted in the martyrdom of 43 security personnel, most of them border guards, and parts of nearby buildings were also seriously damaged,” the Mehr news agency says.

Israel’s attacks against Iran will continue to intensify, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says after a meeting with Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, and Mossad chief David Barnea.

“Our forces are now striking in the heart of Tehran with increasing intensity, and this will only intensify further in the coming days,” says Netanyahu from the roof of the IDF Kirya headquarters in Tel Aviv.

“However, these are painful days,” he says, referring to the deadly Iranian strikes in Tel Aviv and Beit Shemesh.

“My heart goes out to the families, and on behalf of all of you, the citizens of Israel, I send wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded.”

Netanyahu does not say the joint US-Israel strikes will bring down the regime, saying only that the “combination of forces enables us to do what I have longed to do for 40 years — to strike the terror regime decisively. That is what I promised — and that is what we will do.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says that Iran could select a new leader within “a day or two,” following the killing this weekend of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei in the US-Israeli campaign against the Iranian regime.

“You may see the selection of a supreme leader in a day or two,” Araghchi tells Al Jazeera in an interview, condemning the military strikes on his country and warning Khamenei’s assassination “would make this conflict — this war of aggression by the Americans against us — even more dangerous and more complicated, and it would perhaps add new aspects to it.”

“This war cannot bring about any good result for the other side,” he says to the Qatari news network. “They have not been able to achieve their targets, and they will not be able to achieve their targets in the coming days. As long as they continue, they cannot achieve anything.”

He says the current conflict reminds him of the last US-Israeli campaign against Iran in June, where, he says, Israel and the US ultimately “had no option but to ask for an unconditional ceasefire” after 12 days of fighting. Israel and the US portrayed that operation as a success that achieved their goals.

“I do not see any difference between this time and the previous time,” he continues. “We will resist as long as it takes, and they will see the result.”

Netanyahu, Trump began planning for joint strike on Iran in December — report

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump began discussing the details of another strike on Iran in late December during their meeting at the president’s Mar-a-Lago residence, Axios reports.

Netanyahu initiated a conversation about a follow-up to the June 2025 12-day war on Iran, according to the report. The attack originally had a tentative May date.

Regime crackdowns on protesters changed Trump’s thinking, according to the report. He almost ordered strikes on January 14, but instead initiated a major military build-up in the region. He also began planning a joint strike on Iran with Israel, reports Axios.

Trump also decided to hold negotiations with Iran as planning for a strike progressed. The talks were not a ruse to catch the Iranians off-guard, three US and Israeli officials tell Axios.

After the second round of talks, Israel and the US agreed that there was an opportunity to strike on February 28, when Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would be meeting with his top aides.

Trump aides Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff attended the Geneva talks with the Iranians last Thursday, days before that date, with little expectation that a deal would take place, but, according to the report, it was an important element of making sure Khamenei attended the meeting with his aides and didn’t hide out in his bunker.

The two US envoys “saw that the Iranian proposal was bullshit and only meant to buy time,” a senior US official tells Axios. “There wasn’t any ‘there’ there to work with.”

“We reported this to the president and obviously he weighed the different options,” the official says to Axios.

There were three major areas of disagreement, say the officials.

Iran refused an offer of free nuclear fuel for a civilian nuclear program with no end date. It also refused to discuss ballistic missiles or the regime’s support for proxy terror groups.

US intelligence indicated clearly that Iran was rebuilding nuclear facilities that were struck by American bombers in June, according to the report.

Kushner and Witkoff demanded that Iran provide a concrete proposal. The Iranian team came back with a seven-page document explaining how much enrichment they would need for a civilian program. The White House checked the figures with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which informed them that the Iranian proposal would allow them to enrich five times as much as was allowed in the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal with former US president Barack Obama’s administration.

“If the Iranians had come to Geneva and given Trump what he wanted, he would have pulled the brakes on the military track. But they were arrogant and thought he wouldn’t take action,” an Israeli intelligence official tells Axios. “They were wrong.”

Israeli airlines El Al, Arkia, and Israir extend suspensions of their flight operations to and from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport through Tuesday, amid expectations that the country’s airspace will not reopen until at least Wednesday.

As it is uncertain when Ben Gurion Airport will reopen, Arkia today launched special flights between Athens in Greece and Taba International Airport in Egypt to help thousands of stranded Israelis return home via land border crossing.

Starting Monday, flights will also be operated to Taba from Rome in Italy and Larnaca in Cyprus, Arkia says.

Israir says it is readying to operate flights to and from both Taba and Jordan’s Aqaba airport near the southern coastal city of Eilat, but has not provided further details.

The US Central Command denies claims made by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was struck with ballistic missiles.

“The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn’t even come close,” CENTCOM says in a statement.

“The Lincoln continues to launch aircraft in support of CENTCOM’s relentless campaign to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” it adds.

The IRGC claimed earlier that “the US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln was struck by four ballistic missiles.”

Amid reports of former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s death, Iranian state media says reports cannot be confirmed.

Israeli and international media report that the hardline former Iranian president was killed in a Saturday strike on his home, citing “state media.”

Some outlets cite the Iran Labor News Agency. However, the news site says explicitly that the reports “cannot be confirmed.”

“One of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s close associates, in contact with ILNA, denied the news of the martyrdom of the president of the ninth and tenth governments without any additional information, saying: ‘The news of his martyrdom is false,” according to the outlet.

Neither Israel nor Iran have put out an official statement.

US official confirms B-2s conducted recent strikes on Iran

A US defense official confirms to Fox News that the American military used B-2 stealth bombers in recent strikes on Iran.

According to the official, four B-2 bombers flew round-trip from the US and “dropped dozens of 2-000-lb bombs on underground ballistic missile sites in Iran.”

The Fox News report comes after analysts monitoring open-source flight tracking data revealed that B-2 bombers had been used in recent strikes on Iran.

The Israeli military says it destroyed the headquarters of Iran’s internal security forces amid a wave of airstrikes in Tehran earlier today.

Dozens of fighter jets struck dozens of Iranian regime headquarters, including the general staff of the Iranian internal security forces, the IDF says.

According to the IDF, the internal security forces headquarters “served as a command and control center responsible for linking the command echelon with the Iranian terror regime’s forces on the ground and led the brutal repression against the Iranian people.”

In addition, the IDF says it destroyed a complex serving the Thar-Allah Headquarters, an IRGC unit tasked with security for the Tehran area.

“Air defenses successfully intercepted Iranian missiles near Riyadh airport and Prince Sultan Airbase on Sunday afternoon,” the source says, requesting anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, adding that the interception did not disrupt navigation or cause any human or material losses.

An eyewitness near the airport said they “saw and heard the air defense intercept the missile in the sky.” Residents and AFP correspondents earlier reported hearing explosions in eastern Riyadh.

The Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court refuses to extend some key restrictive release conditions on Tzachi Braverman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s chief of staff, ruling that Braverman’s position means it is necessary for him to be able to work during the ongoing war with Iran.

Judge Menahem Mizrahi therefore denies the police request to maintain a travel ban that has been imposed on Braverman, and denies the request to extend the ban on him being in contact with Netanyahu.

Mizrahi notes that due to the war with Iran it will be difficult for Braverman to take up his post as new Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom, but says that the judicial order banning him from leaving the country is nevertheless annulled.

If Braverman leaves the country, he will be required to return should the police request he do so.

The judge does, however, prohibit Braverman from speaking with the prime minister about the investigation into the suspicions that Braverman interfered with an ongoing investigation. Mizrahi also extends a ban on Braverman contacting other suspects in the case until March 10.

The ruling will go into effect in 48 hours to allow the police the opportunity to appeal to the district court.

Braverman is being investigated on suspicion of interfering with an investigation and other crimes, in connection with allegations that he told Eli Feldstein, a spokesperson for Netanyahu, that he could quash a military investigation into Feldstein over the leak of a classified document to the German newspaper Bild.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar hits back at critics of the joint US-Israeli campaign against Iran by saying the Iranian regime’s goal of destroying Israel justifies the assault, in comments in a situational assessment at the Foreign Ministry shared by his office.

“We are receiving criticism regarding attacks on the regime,” Sa’ar says, without elaborating. The United Nations Secretary General and some Arab states have condemned the campaign, while many countries have responded cautiously and urged a return to diplomacy. Others have praised the attack.

Sa’ar says the attack will go on: “The intention is to continue, together with the United States, with very powerful blows against the Iranian regime,” he says.

“If this regime calls for the destruction of Israel and acts to destroy Israel, then we are authorized — and cannot wait — for it to achieve the goal it has set for itself, and which it is pursuing persistently and with determination that has not changed even after June,” he says, referring to Israel’s strikes on Iran last year, which the US eventually joined and which aimed to dismantle Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

“The first blow [of the current attack] was very effective and achieved its objectives beyond expectations,” Sa’ar says during the assessment.

The majority of those killed in today’s Iranian missile impact in Beit Shemesh had been taking cover in a public shelter, says the Jerusalem District police chief.

Deputy Commissioner Avshalom Peled is speaking at the scene of a lethal strike that left nine dead and over two dozen wounded.

“As far as I know… it was likely a direct impact on the shelter and most, if not all of those killed, were in there [the public shelter],” says Peled.

He adds that police were aware during the last round of fighting with Iran in June that public shelters and safe rooms are unable to withstand the force of a direct ballistic missile impact.

The senior cop nevertheless urges civilians to continue to take shelter amid missile fire from Iran to guard from lighter impacts.

“Those located in a protected area when the damage isn’t direct, which is the majority of cases, are indeed shielded from the missile or debris that flies through the air,” Peled continues.

Debris from drone damages Abu Dhabi building housing Israeli embassy, 2 lightly injured

Debris from an intercepted drone damaged an Abu Dhabi complex housing the Israeli embassy and several other international missions, causing minor injuries to a woman and her child, Abu Dhabi’s state media office says.

Debris from the drone fell against the facade of the Etihad Towers complex after an interception that caused loud sounds heard across the emirate, the media office says.

After the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Saturday, Iran has hit a range of civilian and commercial areas across Gulf cities, widening the conflict’s impact on key regional aviation and trade hubs.

As retaliatory strikes widened today, they reverberated across Gulf Arab states, with loud blasts heard in Dubai and the Qatari capital Doha and with Oman being hit for the first time.

In Dubai, two people were injured after shrapnel from drones fell over two houses when they were intercepted, a Dubai state media office statement says.

Dubai’s international airport, its landmark Burj Al Arab hotel and man-made Palm Jumeirah Island all suffered damage overnight, as did Abu Dhabi’s international airport.

Thick black plumes of smoke continued to rise from the Jebel Ali port area, where one of the berths caught fire today because of debris from an intercepted missile.

In Oman, the Duqm commercial port was targeted by two drones, wounding one worker, the state news agency says.

Dubai is the biggest tourism and trade hub in the Middle East and its airport is one of the world’s busiest travel hubs.

Qatar’s interior ministry said on Sunday that it was responding to a limited fire in an industrial zone after debris fell from an intercepted missile.

The US used B-2 stealth bombers in recent strikes on Iran, according to analysts monitoring open-source flight tracking data.

The information is published by the founder of the Military Air Tracking Alliance, a team of about 30 open-source analysts that analyzes military and government flight activity.

There has not yet been a confirmation of the report by American officials.

The US used B-2s, the advanced aircraft known for being capable of delivering huge bunker-buster bombs, during strikes on Iranian nuclear sites at the end of June 2025’s war between Israel and Iran.

German secret service overseer warns of Iranian retaliation in Europe

BERLIN — Retaliatory measures, including by Iranian sleeper cells in Europe, cannot be ruled out after US and Israeli strikes killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the head of Germany’s parliamentary control panel for the secret services says.

“The Iranian regime has repeatedly demonstrated in the past that it carries out its terror beyond its own borders,” Marc Henrichmann tells the Sueddeutsche Zeitung paper.

“Retaliatory measures, including by Iranian sleeper cells in Europe, cannot be ruled out,” he adds, saying protection measures must be adapted if needed.

The warhead of an Iranian missile hit a site just several dozen meters from the Old City of Jerusalem, and just several hundred meters from the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, during the course of Saturday, the police state.

According to police, an explosion was heard in the area yesterday, shortly after the beginning of the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, and smoke was seen rising from the site, just west of the Old City of Jerusalem.

The impact site appears to have been the Sultan’s Pool outdoor events venue, which lies just a few dozen meters to the west of the Old City and just under a kilometer west of the Temple Mount, as the crow flies.

Police and sappers conducted searches of the area and found a warhead from an Iranian ballistic missile, and also discovered “incendiary and explosive materials” scattered nearby.

From footage sent by the police, it appears that the missile did not strike the site directly and may instead have been intercepted, with its fragments falling to earth.

The police did not immediately respond to questions regarding the nature of the impact.

The warhead was “neutralized” by sappers from the police’s Jerusalem District.

The Old City of Jerusalem includes some of the most important holy sites in the world, including the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, the holiest Jewish places in the world; as well as the Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam; and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, believed by Christians to be the site of the crucifixion of Jesus.

“Yesterday we received further proof that from the enemy’s perspective, all targets are legitimate, and if that warhead had deviated by a few hundred meters, it is very possible that a very serious hit would have occurred, especially if one of the holy places had been hit while it was full of worshipers and visitors,” says police commander Dvir Tamir.

Iran poses a threat to both Israel and surrounding Arab countries, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oren Marmorstein tells The Times of Israel while briefing reporters at the site of an Iranian missile attack in central Tel Aviv.

Asked for Israel’s reaction to Arab allies in the Gulf being attacked by Iran during the US-Israeli military campaign against the country, Marmorstein replies: “The fact that Arab countries and Arab allies were targeted just goes to show that the Iranian regime doesn’t only pose a threat to Israel.”

“It doesn’t only pose a threat to the region,” he continues. It “imposes a threat to the entire world.”

Asked if Israel is doing anything to assist Arab countries in the region that have been targeted by Iran to defend themselves, he responds, “We are doing everything possible to meet the objective of this operation, and this operation is working and happening hand in hand with our American friends,” and thanks US President Donald Trump “for his leadership, and working together to achieve these goals.”

Marmorstein emphasizes that the Iranian regime is deliberately targeting civilians in its retaliatory strikes, while stressing that Israel “has no quarrel with the Iranian people… our only quarrel is with the Iranian regime.”

The Israeli military assesses that Iran currently possesses some 2,500 ballistic missiles.

Ahead of June 2025’s war, the IDF said it identified efforts by Iran to significantly accelerate its production rate of ballistic missiles and increase its stockpile from around 3,000 to 8,000 within two years.

During the June war, Iran launched over 500 missiles at Israel, and the military reported destroying hundreds of missiles in strikes and preventing the production of 1,500 additional missiles by targeting manufacturing infrastructure. In addition, the military reported destroying some 200 of Iran’s estimated 400 ballistic missile launchers at the time.

In recent months, the military says Iran has been investing significant efforts to restore its missile production capabilities, manufacturing dozens of projectiles per month.

The IDF says Iran’s ballistic missile production rate had been on a “upward trend” in recent months, and it now possesses around 2,500 projectiles.

“The possession of missiles by a regime that intends to destroy the State of Israel constitutes an existential threat,” the IDF says, adding that it “will not allow the Iranian terror regime to restore its military capabilities, and will continue to act to eliminate any emerging threat against the citizens of the State of Israel, anywhere and at any time.”

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir vows law enforcement will crack down on those who incite against Israel, after arriving at the scene of yesterday’s Iranian missile impact in Tel Aviv.

Speaking to the press alongside police chief Danny Levy and Tel Aviv District commander Haim Sargaroff, Ben Gvir praises the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the ongoing joint Israeli-US operation.

“The end of an era, we’ve lopped off the head of the snake,” he says, hailing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz for the waves of strikes against the Islamic Republic. He then turns his focus inwards, warning that police will crack down on those within Israel who “incite” against the state.

“We have a very determined police, whoever raises his head to try to incite against the State of Israel, whoever raises his head to try and harm the State of Israel, we will thrash him, we will tear his head off,” he says.

He further calls on Israelis to carry firearms with them. “I call on citizens to bear arms, those who have a firearm, to bear it,” he says.

After being hassled by a group bystanders in the liberal city who tell him to “go home,” Ben Gvir hits back at them before the cameras: “You shouted this at us before Iran — ‘go home’ — you shouted it before the prisons,” he says, referring to his campaign to significantly degrade living conditions for Palestinian security detainees.

“We’ve seen that at the end of the day, you talk while we act, and we’ve made history,” he says, referring to Khamenei’s assassination. “At the end of the day, these Nazis want to destroy us all… they want to eliminate all of us, and we will eliminate them one-by-one.”

Speaking at the site of a deadly Iranian missile strike in Tel Aviv, President Isaac Herzog thanks US President Donald Trump “for his courage” and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “for the correct decision.”

“We are united at this moment to defeat the enemy and bring about change,” he says.

Israel is at war, the president stresses, “and in war, you must first take care of the home front and protect it, and second, attack and act with full force to defeat the enemy.”

“If someone rises to kill you, rise to kill him first,” he says, quoting the Babylonian Talmud.

“This is not an easy time,” Herzog continues, “but it is a time in which we can see, generations ahead, how much this campaign is bringing change. Generations ahead — because the evil empire in Iran has as its sole objective the destruction of Israel. This is a top priority on its agenda. Therefore, it is our duty to be strong, resilient, and steadfast. We will get through this and move forward, and our children and grandchildren will one day be grateful for these moments.”

At the same site, former prime minister Naftali Bennett, considered Netanyahu’s main rival in elections this year, stresses his support “for the government and its leader.”

He also says that while much of the world routinely denounces what Israel does, even critics of Israel know deep down that “Israel is doing their job, in eliminating the world’s biggest terrorist dictators.”

“I’ve never been prouder to be an Israeli,” he says, “and we will never apologize for what we are doing. I give my full backing to the government and its leader. There is no left and no right.” He also hails Israel’s military, noting that “the entire people of Israel stand behind the pilots.”

Bennett says Israel is stronger and safer “because Israel did not wait any longer” to target Iran. He laments that Israel “for decades” followed a doctrine of “containment and waiting.” But now, he says, it is “acting on every front to harm our enemies.”

“We all proceed together” until the threats to Israel are dealt with, he says.

Noting that Israel has done its part by eliminating the Iranian leadership, he says: “Now it’s the Iranian people’s turn to rise up and free itself. The one who must remove the chains of oppression is the Iranian people itself.”

UK Defense Secretary John Healey declines to explicitly back strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, saying it was for the US to “set out the legal basis of the action it took.”

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the airstrikes yesterday.

Healey tells the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg that Britain played no part in the strikes, but it did share the aim of the United States and other allies in the region that Iran should never have a nuclear weapon.

Asked if he believes the strikes were within international law, Healey says: “It is for the US to set out the legal basis of the action that it took.”

Healey says Iran was retaliating in an increasingly indiscriminate way, targeting civilian airports and hotels as well as military bases.

“We have strengthened the UK defenses in the region, we are active in regional defense operations,” he tells Sky News.

He says UK aircraft are operating from bases in Qatar and Cyprus and are intercepting drone attacks on bases and allies.

Defense Minister Israel Katz says the Israeli Air Force is striking Tehran with “stand-in” munitions, meaning those dropped directly over their targets.

“For the first time in Operation Roaring Lion, air force aircraft are operating in ‘stand-in’ over the skies of Tehran in a powerful strike against regime and repression targets,” Katz says.

Israeli strikes in Tehran in the past day had used stand-off weapons, which are launched from a distance and generally have smaller warheads.

The ability to launch stand-in bombs comes after the military says it established air superiority and “opened the way to Tehran.”

Katz says “continuous powerful strikes” will now take place in Tehran.

UK says Iran fired two missiles in direction of Cyprus

UK Defense Secretary John Healey says that two Iranian missiles were fired toward Cyprus.

IDF says 40 Iranian commanders killed in opening strikes

The IDF says it killed 40 “key” Iranian military commanders in its opening strikes in Iran yesterday, including Iran’s chief of staff, Abdolrahim Mousavi.

The 40 commanders, along with other top Iranian officials — including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei — were killed in strikes carried out in under a minute, according to the military.

The IDF says it can now confirm that Mousavi was killed in the opening strikes. Mousavi had replaced Mohammad Bagheri, who was killed in Israel’s opening strikes during June 2025’s war.

Mousavi was responsible for “managing Iran’s security apparatus and oversaw the firing of hundreds of ballistic missiles launched toward Israeli territory, which killed Israeli civilians during the operation,” the military says.

The IDF says that “the majority of the highest-ranking senior military officials of the Iranian security leadership have been eliminated by the IDF.”

The CIA identified the precise location of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei shortly before the US and Israel launched their coordinated strike on Iran, providing what officials describe as “high fidelity” intelligence that shaped the operation, The New York Times reports, citing officials familiar with the matter.

According to the report, US intelligence had tracked Khamenei for months, refining its understanding of his movements and security patterns. The breakthrough came when the CIA learned that Khamenei would attend a morning meeting of senior Iranian officials at a leadership compound in central Tehran.

The intelligence was shared with Israel, and the two countries adjusted the timing of their planned strike — which was initially planned to take place under the cover of darkness — to exploit the opportunity, moving it to coincide with the gathering at 9:40 a.m. Tehran time.

The New York Times says that the White House and CIA declined to comment on the report.

The IDF officially announces that it killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in an airstrike in Tehran yesterday.

“Ali Khamenei was targeted in a precise, large-scale operation carried out by the Israeli Air Force, guided by accurate IDF intelligence, while he was in his central leadership compound in the heart of Tehran, where he was together with additional senior officials,” the military says in a statement.

The military says Khamenei, who served as the supreme leader since 1989, “was directly responsible for the violent repression of Iranian citizens for many years.”

“Khamenei was the architect of the plan to destroy the State of Israel and was known as the ‘head of the Iranian octopus,’ extending its arms throughout the Middle East and to the borders of the State of Israel. Foremost among them was the Hezbollah terror organization. The supreme leader of the Iranian regime was responsible for terrorist attacks against the State of Israel, and the blood of many civilians from around the world was on his hands,” the IDF says.

The IDF says it has “brought to an end a decades-long chapter with the elimination of the leader of the Iranian terror axis.”

“His elimination joins a series of eliminations of senior members of the terror axis carried out by the IDF during the war,” the statement adds.

The woman killed in last night’s Iranian missile strike on Tel Aviv did not manage to enter a bomb shelter, according to a military investigation of the attack.

The Home Front Command has determined that a complete Iranian ballistic missile — not fragments — struck next to an apartment building, causing extensive damage and a large crater.

The missile carried a warhead of several hundred kilograms, the Home Front Command assesses.

The building is relatively old, without its own safe rooms, and most residents had evacuated to a nearby public bomb shelter, according to the Home Front Command.

The slain woman, who is a foreign caregiver for an elderly woman, did not manage to evacuate in time and was killed in the strike. The woman she was caring for was extracted by rescue workers from the rubble alive.

In the past day, the military has detected that Iran has launched several hundred missiles at Israel and other countries in the Middle East — mostly from western Iran.

The continuous salvos have consisted of a small number of missiles, usually three at a time, with breaks of a few minutes between each launch, according to the IDF. Still, the barrage last night on Tel Aviv consisted of over 20 missiles.

In contrast, during the June 2025 war, Iran initially launched larger barrages with longer breaks between each salvo.

The Home Front Command says it has mobilized some 20,000 reservists, mainly for search and rescue operations.
