Far-right MK Sukkot seen smashing Palestinian monument to ‘martyrs’ under IDF escort

Footage from the West Bank village of Madama shows far-right lawmaker Zvi Sukkot and several others smashing a monument to slain Palestinians, including terrorists, while under IDF escort.

The video published by Palestinian media shows a soldier standing right next to the Religious Zionism party member and the other Israelis during the smashing of the village’s “Martyrs’ Monument,” while other troops are seen slightly further away next to an army vehicle.

A military source says the IDF had approved a “tour” of the village for Sukkot under guard, but had been unaware of his intention to destroy the monument.

The monument at Madama honors several slain Palestinians, among them terrorists, including Yaman Tayeb Ali Faraj, whom Sukkot says had involvement in a 2003 suicide bombing at the Geha Junction in central Israel, in which four people were murdered and over 20 injured, and Shadi Nasser, a Palestinian suicide bomber who injured 14 in an attack at the Eshel HaShomron Hotel in the West Bank settlement of Ariel in 2002.

The December 25, 2003 suicide attack in Geha was claimed by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terror group. Faraj, a PFLP commander, was killed by a missile fired from an IDF helicopter when fleeing arrest near Nablus in July 2004. A Palestinian lecturer and his son were also killed in the arrest operation, according to Palestinian media.

“Several days ago, I demanded that the army take action to remove the monuments that commemorate terrorists in the murderous villages of Madama and Burin, but unfortunately they remained in place. That is why I came myself and took action to remove them,” Sukkot says.

“We will not lend a hand to the incitement of terrorism in the heart of Judea and Samaria or to turning murderers into heroes. Smashing the monuments conveys a message with an iron fist to the next generation of terrorists,” adds Sukkot, calling on the army to “remove all monuments to terrorism in the territories of Judea and Samaria.”

“Every place where there is such a thing inciting to terror must be taken down,” he says. “Every child passing here who grows up in this village and sees this monument will want to be a ‘martyr’ when he grows up.”
